Day Eleven, of Lent!
You know how yesterday day I said that I wanted something exiting to happen wellll it did! I had forgotten that my friend Michelle's B-day party was today and it was awsome! We all ate cake... I know I broke my Lenten but, seriously who goes to a birthday party and doesn't eat cake!?!? Soooo yea anyway the party started at 4:00pm but Michelle's mom invited me in early so I went in at 3:30pm and I was there until 9:30pm that's 6 hours!!!!!!!!! There was karaoke and it was the first time that I have ever did karaoke. I got a 96% on Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles and a 98% on Play That Funky Music ummmmm I forgot most of the songs that I sang but I know that I sang allot! I didn't get below an 80% in any of them so I was quite pleased with myself. (not to be prideful or anything) My friend Jenina also sang and it was not easy to make her pick up the mic but, once she did she was deffinently the best singer out of all of us! I took a video but I am sure she would be really mad if I put it on here sooooo since I hate to be mean I won't. By the end of the party me and my friend Samantha were just messing around and the last word of every sentence of the song we were just blurting out it was so funny and it didn't sound so bad either we were joking around saying that of are jobs weren't going so well when we grow up we would just make remixes of songs of just doing that it was so fun! That was probably the best B-day party I have ever gone to and trust me I am not over exaggerating!

British music!
I love music! I have been especially interested in British music lately... It has a different sound that I really like! Some of my favorite artists are Thomas Tantrum, Kate Nash, The Ting Tings, Florence + the Machine, Lily Allen, The Kooks and just recently the Arctic Monkeys (I know weird band name right!) I put some samples of those particular artist. Although I couldn't find any Thomas Tantrum. :~/ ... If you know of any good British artists be sure to leave a comment!
This is my fave Kooks song!

Kate Nash has a really good voice!

That's not my name! Being from a family with nine children you do get called by the wrong name quite often. Sometimes my mom will be like,"Zach, Sam, Jacob, Sam I mean CALEB!"

This song is Hilarious!
It's weird because I usually don't like songs with this kind of beat but, this song works for me!
They didn't have any clean versions for Lily Allen soooooo yeeeaaaah...

Day Ten, of Lent!
Today was cleaning day... Other then that it was exactly the same as yesterday... I'm getting tired of these cookie cutter days! Hopefully something exciting happens soon! Then I will actually have something to blog about!

Day Nine, of Lent!
Today was a cookie cutter day... A day like every other... It started with School, And is ending with a Blog blog post about how my day went. The highlight of the day was walking to the store (while it was snowing even though non stuck :~/) to get gum (my Lenten snack) and see Shayna. The only thing different about today was that I am babysitting Zoe-Zoe (hurray!) Even though my days seem to be busier when I watch her I'd rather babysit then sit around and do nothing!

Day Eight, of Lent!
Today was a very boring and very busy day at the same time! Pretty much the whole day I held Jacob because my mom was really busy dealing with the public schools. but, anyway yea me and my mom did some more grading... And grading Grace's tests+Samuel's tests= Massive headache! I am starting to miss my iPod less and less... I don't know if that is a good or bad thing... But, This seems to happen every year I really really miss the thing I gave-up at the very beginning of lent then later I start to forget about it. About half way through is when I really start to miss the thing I gave up. so we'll see on my,"Day twenty-three, of Lent" post. Soooo Yeah, This apparently wasn't a very interesting day! hence the short post...

Day Seven, of Lent!
We had scones for lunch today! They almost broke our Lenten with how delicious they were! My dad came down started to eat one then through it in the garbage and said it was,"sinfully delicious" HAHAHA! and that he would brake his Lenten if he ate it! I graded Samuel and Grace's Light Unit tests today and the result was a massive headache and allot of red sharpie all over the tests! There was only a couple of passed tests and the rest they have to re-do. We are going to average the old score with the new score and whatever the score may be, that's is what they will get... We are continuing to read about kindness and today it took much quicker today because there was much less (almost no) talking in-between sentences. In comparison to yesterday were we couldn't go a sentence without being interrupted by a question or example. The reason why they were so quiet today is because they were in a hurry to get outside and play with there friends (typical!).
Late Pics
Backed up on Grading... I'd say so!
Sorry about the angle.

Day Six, of Lent!
I got awakened this morning and remembered it was a school day and a whole other week of lent... x~/ I did my school, which has been quite simple lately since I am approaching the end of the school year. I am about to go into hyper-study mode though to get ready for testing! I made lunch and accidentally made way, way to much spaghetti and sauce! I made so much that we can have it again tomorrow. We are reading a book about Kindness and our goal is to finish the book before Easter. Now it is raining and I have nothing to do and I want my iPod! =~(

Day Five, of Lent!
Just got home from church... I was thinking about, "cheating" (saying as it is Sunday) but, I think I am only cheating with sweets instead. I did however, check my texts and e-mail on my iPod but, I didn't send any back so I don't think that counts as cheating (what do you think?). Now apparently I am about to babysit because I guess my mom is going to the store... I am going to have to cut this post short because my sister gave-up the computer for lent and she wants to get on (I don't blame her). I'll probably add to this post later! Ok It's later HAHAHA! We played capture the flag again but this time supper didn't interrupt! Then I went to the store to get some more girl scout cookies for Sam because my sister and her friend ate them all! Girl scouts are con-artists! I went to the stand and asked,"Which flavor is the best?" and then the girl scout leader responded,"I think the tagalongs are the best!" then the girl scout next to her said,"Those are really good" then the girl scout next to her (who didn't even look like a girl scout) said,"Yea they're the best!" then I said,"I was thinking about getting the mint thins because I love mint-chocolate!" then the girl scout leader said,"Those are the best!" (After she had already said tagalongs were the best?!?!) then the girl scout next to her said,"Those are really good" and the one next to her again said,"Yea there the best!" they definitely practiced that or something because they said the same thing for every flavor!
The Winter Olympics!
I have been watching the Olympics lately (actually I am watching it right now!) and for some reason every time I start to watch it it is either speed skating, hockey or skiing (right now it is skiing) I caught some of pretty much all the other Olympic Games but not much. If only they started earlier then I could watch more before I had to go to bed! :~/ Here is the link to the Vancouver Olympics website, where you can read all the things you need to know about what is going on in the Olympics click here! The U.S beat Canada in the preliminary round of hockey... It was predicted that the score was going to be 5-3 Canada but it actually turned out to be 5-3 U.S... I know this is kind of messed up but, even though I live in the U.S, I was going for Canada in Ice Hockey, Because they are pretty much the founders of hockey (even though my dad won't admit it)! But either way I was happy so it's a win, win situation haha!
This commercial gives me goosebumps. It's sad then happy and it all happens so fast!

Day Four, of Lent!
I went to Youth Group and hung-out with my friend Alexandria! The talk at Youth Group today was about the importance of respecting your elders. This guy named Nick gave us the speech. It was actually very interesting because he gave the speech on a teens point of view and an adults point of view so that was pretty cool!... Then I volunteered to say a decade of the Rosary but, I didn't know that one (of the ten) of the little knobs on my Rosary ring had broken off so I prayed one less Hail Mary then I was supposed to but, at least no one seemed to have noticed. I got home and hung-out with my friends Michelle and Samantha and played, "Capture the Flag" so that was fun until I had to go in and eat supper :~/ Sometimes supper is such a party pooper! After that I did my chores, watched the Singing Bee, and now I am blogging. So throughout this day I have not been bored once which is good because the only times I really miss my iPod is when I am cleaning or I am bored! Which I did neither of today... well a little bit of cleaning but not much. Today was a pretty good day!
Friday, February 19, 2010
Day Three, of Lent
Today is cleaning day so I have been cleaning since I woke up (other then right now). My mom informed me that I am doing something called forty bags, for forty days... If you don't get it, it means that you get a bag the size is your choice it can be as big or as small as you like. Every day in lent (except for Sunday) you fill the bag with clothes, movies, games or whatever you don't use anymore and you throw it away or give it to charity (If it isn't to worn-out or broken). By the end of Lent your house will be less cluttered and more organized!
The Rabbit Hole
I went to see a play at my friends school yesterday... It was the first play that I have ever seen and also the first time I have been in a public high school (other then my parents in Maine)! It was a very interesting play about a family who looses there son when he was hit by a car while running across the street. And the parents trying to find a way to get through the grief of loosing there son. The acting was really good! I am not sure how those people keep a straight face like that but I guess they are well practiced. Like I said I have never been to a play before and I didn't know that there was an intermission so when the first half ended I thought that the whole play was over and I said,"that was a terrible ending" and my friends started laughing and I had no clue why until they told me hahahaha!

Day Two, of lent!
Today is the second day of lent... It has been going good so far, I did my school then made and ate lunch, said the Angelus and now I am about to do my chores. today there hasn't been a moment of doing nothing so I haven't really had time to miss my iPod but, there is still the rest of the day to go...

Ash Wednesday!
I just got back from mass! Now as it is ash wednesday we are officially in the lenten season. I am gonna have to get used to not having my iPod. I'm sure that I am going to have days of utter boredom but, with the help of blogger, friends, and family. I'm sure that it won't be as bad as it could be!
Saturday, February 13, 2010
Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Lent!
Fat Tuesday is coming up which will be the last day that I can use my iPod touch (because I decided to give it up for Lent.) Which means that I will be putting less posts then usual. Because most of the time I post from my iPod, like I am now... I do this because the computer is always either locked or being used. Ash Wednesday is also coming up which is the first day of lent which means 40 days of no sweets or iPod. Not counting Sundays because there is actually 46 days of lent counting Sundays.

St. Mary's Cathedral
The Chapel of St Mary's was opened in 1814, and was originally designed by James Gillespie Graham. The church was considerably embellished over the years, and in 1878 on the restoration of the Scottish hierarchy it became the pro-cathedral of the new Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. It was renamed the Metropolitan Cathedral on 5th July 1886 with all the rights and privileges appertaining to such a Church. The cathedral has been enlarged, rebuilt and remodelled many times over the years, with the last major structural changes commencing in the 1970s. Pope John Paul II visited St Mary's in May 1982 as part of his pastoral visit to Scotland.

Edinburgh vaults.
The Edinburgh vaults are located underneath South Bridge. Respectable buisnesses such as silversmiths goldsmiths and Book binders were located on top of the bridge. The vaults were mearly used as a storage area for the buisnesses. Then for various reason these buisnesses moved down for what we would call Social buisnesses like pubs and resturants. The vaults were a very sad place to be all the undesireables of society lived there. Most of the time, they still lived there when they passed on. In the 1840s the famine in Ireland known as the potato famine brought some of the Irish to Edinburgh but since they did not have enough money to live in the houses they moved into the vaults as well.

Edinburgh castle.
Edinburgh Castle dominates the skies of Edinburgh. It sits on top of what was at one time a volcano. The first record of the castle being used as a royal residence is in the 11th century when Margaret, the wife of Malcolm III died there after hearing of her husband's death at Alnwick in 1093. "Saint Margaret" (she was later canonised) was Saxon-English, a refugee from the conquest of England by the Normans under William the Conqueror. She brought piety and manners to the Scottish court and was knowned for her generosity to the poor. A chapel was built for her but not until the 12th century. The castle remained a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. As one of the most important fortresses in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle has been in many historical battles from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. It has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. From the later 17th century, the castle became a military base. Its importance as a historic monument was recognised in the 19th century. Although it used to be owned by the Ministry of Defence, most of the castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland, and is Scotland's second-most-visited tourist attraction. Although the garrison left in the 1920s, there is still a some military at the castle.

Grayfriars cemetery
Grayfriars cemetery is known to be one of the most haunted cemeteriess in the world! One of the hauntings is said to be the unrested spirit of the infamous 'Bloody' George Mackenzie who was buried there in 1691. George Makenzie aka 'Mackenzie Poltergeist' is said to cause bruses, bites and cuts to those who come into contact with it and many visitors have said that they feel strange sensations. Particularly, the visitors who go on the City of the Dead ghost tour, which gives them access to the covenenters prison, the people that have entered have emerged with injuries that they don't remember any way of acquiring. Another interesting thing is that a number of deaths have taken place in the Kirkyard itself. There is a Skye terrior known as grayfriar Bobby who is said to "haunt" this cemetery (I am very sceptical of animal ghosts but, I have an opened mind). After his master John Gray died he guarded his grave for 14 years until he died himself his grave reads “Greyfriars Bobby – died 14th January 1872 – aged 16 years old – Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all”. Some people say that they see him still laying on his masters grave. Ghost adventures took a short detour to the cemetary in the Edinburgh vaults episode where they told the story of a homeless man breaking into one of the mortsafes, falling down several flights of stairs into piles of skin and bones then seeing a dark figure come down from above and attack him!

Scotland, with its fair climate and many of different animal species, has given a wide selection of food for its inhabitants for years. An abundace of seafood available on and off the coasts provided the earliest settlers with their nourishment. Agriculture was introduced, with primitive oats quickly becoming the staple crop.
Other European countries started to fight over the game in Scotland. So this made it nescessary put certain restrictions on what a person was allowed to hunt, and therefore to eat. In the halls of the high class men, one could expect venison, boar, various fowl and songbirds, expensive spices (pepper, cloves, cinnamon, etc.), as well as the meats of domesticated animals. From the journeyman down to the lowest cottar, meat was an expensive commodity, and was eaten rarely.
Before Sir Walter Raleigh's introduction of the potato to the British Isles, the Scots' main sources of carbohydrate was obtained from bread made from oats or barley. Wheat was generally difficult to grow because of the damp climate. Food thrift was evident from the earliest times, All parts of an animal were used. Except the toughest bones.
The mobile nature of Scots society in the past required food that would not spoil quickly. It was common to carry a small bag of oatmeal that could be transformed into a basic porridge or oatcakes using a girdle (griddle). It is said that Scotland's national dish, haggis, originated in a similar way: A small amount of offal or low-quality meat, carried in the most inexpensive bag available, a sheep or pig's stomach.

Lunch!
I'm making bisque for lunch and we are having crackers and brie I feel like I'm in France! When we went to purée the soup it exploded out of the blender and flew everywhere! Hahaha well I gues it's funny now but it wasn't funny when it happened. It was very delicious, especially with the crackers and brie! I will have pictures of it later. I didn't get a picture of the soup explosion... But I wish I did!

Superbowl!
I dont really like either of the teams but, I am going for the colts since Peyton Manning is hilarious! It starts of with a colts field goal 0-3 colts! Touchdown colts 0-10! But, now the saints decided they wanted to be awesome like the colts hahaha... they got two field goals and now a touchdown. The saints are beating the colts 13-10... I'm going for the saints now! (I know I was just going for the colts but...) Colts score a touchdown now they are winning 17-13 oh! I guess I'm going for the colts again... Saints field goal 16-17 colts. Saints touchdown 24-17 saints. I'm going for the saints again haha Saints touchdown 31-17 saints win :~) :~) :~) The Myrtle plantation is in New Orleans too! It is one of my favorite haunted locations! Just another reason to not feel so bad that the that the colts lost haha! Any sports fan who read this and thinks, "you can't just switch teams!" I didn't really care who won this superbowl. I only care if the patriots are playing, their my favorite team! But, even then... Sorry this post isn't written very well. I am definitely not a sports writer!

Grammys!
Taylor Swift won album of the year, I knew she would! I think she did too and she was just faking to be surprised but, I don't know her reaction seemed pretty lagit. Is it just me or did the Dave Mathews Band lead singer sound like he was making a wierd buzzing kind of noise when he said the S in yes in the song you and me. I didn't like how Rhianna said that Kanye West is a genious... Kanye is deffinetly not a genious. He is a meanie hahaha. Andrea Bocelli had a good performance! He has a really good voice. But, his voice and Mary J. Blige's voice don't collaborate very well. He sounds better with Celine Dion. Beyonce wins yet another Grammy... She should really put some cloths on... Seriously... Hahaha there was this lady in the front row who looked like she rolled in glue then jumped into a pool of glitter. I don't know why everyone thinks they need to wear the most ridiculous things! I think the best performance of the night was the Les Paul song... Even though I forgot the names of the people who performed it. I think Jeff Beck was the name of the guy playing the guitar. But, anyway these are just my oppinions.
If you have anything to say about the Grammys, leave a comment.

Haggis in America!
Haggis has been banned in America since 1989 when America decided Britain's BSE outbreak was enough to take scottish sheep lungs of there menu.
But now Haggis, the dish called the "great chieftain o' and the pudding race" could be coming back to America, after the US Government announced there plans to relax legislation introduced on imported meats that has been preventing the sale of haggis...
The ban was introduced in 1989 because of concerns about the safety of British meat. The issue remained with the dispute that the import of haggis should not be restricted.
Yesterday, the US Department of Agriculture said new regulations were in progress. A spokeswoman told The Sunday Times that the review was being carried out in the line of a ruling from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that sheep lung. A main ingredient in the Burns Night dish which will be eaten tonight (I posted this late so it was probly a couple nights ago) in homes across the UK, That it is safe to eat. She said, "By closely aligning our import rules with the OIE, we will allow the importation of certain ruminant products that do not contain tissues associated with BSE infectivity or ruminants raised under conditions where they were not fed prohibited materials associated with spreading BSE."
The Scottish Government welcomed the move, which coincides with Burn's Night, the traditional supper held tonight (a couple nights back) to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. Scottish Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead said that the news was"greatly encouraging".
He also said, "We are in regular contact with the industry and believe reversing the ban would deliver a vote of confidence in Scottish producers, and allow American consumers to sample our world-renowned national dish."
